I realized that I love it there. So. Much. The SOUL in that city is fantastic. Everyone everywhere just rocking out.
I know most of you really don’t care but I have to write this out somewhere. So we left my campus at 6 am and then drove down there. The first place we went was the Memphis Music Foundation. It is INCREDIBLE. They provide so much love and support for the local musicians. I loved seeing the giant 100,000 dollar check on the wall from Justin Timberlake (a memphite himself). So we walk out of there and my professor is STILL clutching his gun and my friends and I are walking with him and laughing at it and the stuff he missed while he was in Memphis earlier in the week.
Then we go to the Grammy Foundation. asfjkasjkfjaklsjdfkljas. I got to see Grammy awards and boxes of finalists for the packaging and album art categories for this year’s grammy awards. It was so great. This would be where the first of Dr. Dave’s former students asked when he was coming back to Memphis for good…I joined Grammy U which is a HUGE networking program for music industry students. Crazy awesome.
So we leave there and head to Sun Records. Which is where ELVIS and Johnny Cash recorded among many others. It was awesome. They have tons of Elvis memoribilia including the jacket that he wore on his first TV performance. We also got to hold the microphone that they all sang into. So cool.
Beale Street. Enough said. There are SO many live acts that are fabulous that are just sitting outside of places playing jazz combos and rock acts. It is great. So we start talking to Dr. Dave about how he got an email from a head guy at my college….It said that he had heard that he was taking us out clubbing and drinking on Beale Street and to realize that that was against the lifestyle statement. AND the best part was that he was told to make it very clear that he is not our friend, boyfriend, or lover…..YEAH….
Now…it is time for Huey Lewis’ album release party. We get there and after Huey talks for a while Dr. Dave motions for me and my friend Sarah to come over to where he is standing talking to David Porter (A big time Motown writer). So I talk to him and he tells me how to write a song. Which was surreal. He made it seem SO easy. This would be the second time a person asks Dr. Dave when he is coming back to Memphis for good. And third since Huey Lewis and David Porter both asked. After that we all went to Corky’s and got BBQ since we hadn’t eaten in about 12 hours.
At the album release party Dr. Dave talked to me and my friends (Kelsi, Sarah, and Mariah) about coming back to Memphis. He explained all the shit that has been happening and told us how last year he finally had enough and told this guy to “Go F*** himself.” Which I do NOT blame him for…it is horrible. To think how horribly he is treated at my college and then how everyone knows him and wants him back in Memphis makes me sick.
And when my professor asked my friends and I to transfer down there in the fall….we all actually thought about it. And two of us might…seriously. He told us he would call our parents and convince them to let us come down.
So many other things happened, too. Like, going to Ardent Studios and meeting two of the higher up people WHO WERE FORMER STUDENTS OF HIS. And going to St. Jude and seeing how great of a person he really is. I don’t know. I think we all just realized how we don’t see how he could ever want to stay at our horrible college. He has so many connections…its crazy.
It is a lot to think about. This was just the first step.
"Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus, are divorcing after 17 years of marriage, according to People. “As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for our family,” the pair said in a statement. “We are trying to work through some personal matters. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.”
The couple have five children, including daughter Miley aka Hannah Montana
Divorce papers were filed today (Oct. 27) in Tennessee citing irreconcilable differences.”
This song will always mean so much to me. It was my friend Matt’s favorite song. I miss him still today. He died too young…18 is too young. Especially when you think about the fact that he was a week from him highschool graduation. <3
